Here's why we love Margot!
When winter hits and the Mohawk River freezes over, one unlikely hero keeps things flowing—Margot, the ice-breaking tugboat. This 85-foot powerhouse, built in 1958, is part of a critical mission to prevent flooding in riverside communities like Schenectady's historic Stockade District.
Margot’s job is to bust up ice above the Vischer Ferry Dam, ensuring it doesn't pile up and cause dangerous jams.
Thanks to Margot and her crew, winter on the Mohawk is a little less daunting—and a lot more manageable.
