Here's what it will look like
After years of talks and negotiations, the plan to build an arena at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady got the thumbs up to move forward. The facility will be used as the new home for Union College Hockey, as well as concerts, trade shows and conventions.
It's capacity will be around 2,200 for ice hockey games, while other events can hold up to 3,600 fans.
The $55 million project is expected to give more of a boost to the Schenectady economy:
Over the last 20 years we have worked to bring new investment and development to the County, supporting projects that will have a lasting impact,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “This new arena will create jobs and bring new visitors to our community, further bolstering our economy and enhancing the transformation of Mohawk Harbor.
Work on the facility, temporarily named the Mohawk Harbor Events Center, will begin in the spring of 2024 and is expected to be completed in time for the Union Hockey 2025-2026 season.
