At the Velocity Festival in Dyersville, Iowa, this past weekend, Carrie surprised the crowd by taking a detour from country straight into '90s and early-2000s rock and nu-metal. She covered Collective Soul's “Shine,” Papa Roach's “Scars,” Linkin Park's “One Step Closer” and, perhaps the biggest surprise of all, Limp Bizkit's “Break Stuff.”

And Carrie didn't exactly play it safe. For “Break Stuff,” she even threw on a backwards red hat, paying tribute to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, and went full rock-star mode.

It got us thinking: Why shouldn't country artists cover whatever they want?

Give us a country version of a pop anthem. Turn a classic rock song into a honky-tonk banger. Throw some steel guitar behind an R&B hit. Heck, after Carrie covered Limp Bizkit, we're ready for just about anything.

Because sometimes the best covers are the ones nobody saw coming.
