It was 2003, were you there?
I'm so glad I decided to go to Smackdown that night. It was January 23rd, 2003. The Hulkster was not advertised to appear and had been off WWE TV for some time.
It had been a good show so far, but none of us in the audience were expecting the return of the greatest of all time. Then, Hogan's entrance music hit - at the time it was 'Voodoo Chile' by Jimi Hendrix, though dubbed over in the videos below. It played for about 20 seconds before the icon came walking out. The entire place EXPLODED.
The ovation was so big, Hogan tried to speak but was drowned out by the excitement of the crowd for several minutes.
Finally the Hulkster said it:
Ok Maniacs, you ARE my life!
The crowed again roared in response as Hulk Hogan announced he had just signed a new contract with the WWE and Hulkamiania would run wild one more time. The segment ended when the Hulkster delivered a right hand to the then-owner of the WWE, Vince McMahon.
RIP Brother.
